Turning dust into Dignity. By Melanie

Image
The sun beats down on Campus Avenue, the kind of heat that makes students hurry towards lecture halls and shaded corridors. But for Mzee the heat is just another coworker. Armed with a bucket of soapy water, a weathered rag, and a lifetime of patience, he moves from one parked car to the next. He isn’t just washing metal; he’s performing a daily ritual of renewal. A Quiet Pillar of the Community. While the university buzzes with the high-stakes energy of exams, career goals, and digital dreams, Mzee operates at a different speed. His hands, lined with the stories of decades, scrub away the grime of the morning commute. To many, he is a background character in the campus drama.           More Than Just a Clean Car Mzee doesn’t ask for much—just a bit of space to work and the recognition of a job well done. He is a reminder that while we all strive for the "big things," the world is held together by the small, consistent acts of...

Sweet sips and soul sisters🤍 Lets forget about the library silence and the scratch of lecture notes; the only sound heard today was the delightful glass mugs and the collective sigh of pure, sugary relief.🍦 As the photo suggests, the vibes were high, the spoons were ready, and the stress of the lecture room was a distant memory. "There’s no problem a cold treat and a good friend can't solve,"❤️🤭 A friend-funded treat isn't just a snack; it's a morale booster.🫰The lecture may have been long, but the treat was sweet👌😝 Who’s buying the next round? 😋

On Thursday afternoon at Kyambogo University, Edigu Gregory Micheal stunned the student body when he eschewed the traditional "foot-procession" for a more majestic approach. While rival candidates relied on the sheer volume of their walking supporters, Edigu arrived atop a chestnut horse, cutting a striking figure. The sight of Edigu on horseback wasn't just a spectacle; it was a calculated move in the high-stakes game of student politics. Supporters and curious onlookers quickly gathered as the candidate navigated the university grounds, elevated above the crowd.  His supporters suggest the horse symbolizes strength, leadership, and a "gallop" toward progress, which contrast with the slower, "walking" pace of previous administrations.   The unconventional arrival sent ripples through the campus. ...

The gritty Reality Awaiting the Next Generation of Journalists. By Melanie

Labour behind the lens 📸  As the nations paused to celebrate Labour Day, a striking image of journalists perched atop a dusty van served as a powerful "orientation" for those aspiring to join the field. While many envision the glamour of the newsroom, this photograph captures the raw, physical labour that remains the backbone of the Fourth Estate. For students and aspiring reporters, come prepared, "the news does not come in comfort; it happens where the people are, and that is often where it is most difficult to stand." This image communicates three essential truths about the "work" of journalism today:The Physicality of the truth,The Technological Shift and Mobile Journalism (MoJo)  To join the field now, you must be a "one-man army" ready to shoot, edit, and broadcast from the palm of your hand in the most challenging conditions.  " Are you still ready to take the seat on top of the van to tell the stor...
