An excitement as the Kabaka's birthday run draws closer.By Maria A
A Mission Beyond the Finish Line.
The streets of Mengo are buzzing with anticipation as the Buganda Kingdom, in partnership with Airtel Uganda and various corporate sponsors, prepares for the 13th edition of the Kabaka Birthday Run. Scheduled for this Sunday, April 12, 2026. The event is more than just a celebration of the Kabaka's 71st birthday; it is a critical national mobilization effort aimed at ending HIV/AIDS as a public health threat by 2030.
This year’s run is centered on the powerful theme: "Men for Good Health to Save the Girl Child and the Fight to End HIV/AIDS by 2030."The campaign specifically calls on men to take a leading role in health awareness, testing, and prevention to protect the next generation.
Thousands of participants, like the above Baganda Nkobazambogo students of Kyambogo University, have already secured their kits.
Buganda Katikkiro (Prime Minister) Charles Peter Mayiga has championed the run as one of Africa’s largest public health advocacy events.
As the countdown to Sunday morning begins, the message is clear: whether running for fitness or in honor of the King. Every step taken in Kampala this sundayis a step towards a HIV-free Uganda.
This is a very good initiative championed by Buganda kingdom.
